EventApp Get the App

Privacy Policy

Last updated 30 May 2026

This policy explains what data EventApp (“we”, “us”), operated by Matthijs van der Linden, collects when you use the EventApp app and website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep this document honest: it describes only what the app actually does today.

1. Data we collect

Account information

When you create an account we store an identifier for you and, optionally, a display name:

  • Sign in with Apple: we store the anonymised identifier Apple gives us for your account. If you choose to share your name, we store that display name. We do not receive your Apple password.
  • Email sign-in: we store your email address and send you a temporary one-time code to sign in. Codes are short-lived and deleted once used or expired.

Your activity in the app

To make the app work, we store the things you do:

  • events you mark as going or save,
  • lists you create and the items you add to them,
  • venues and organisations you follow.

Approximate location

If you grant location permission, the app uses your device’s approximate location (accurate to roughly a few hundred metres — never precise GPS) to show events near you. Those approximate coordinates are sent to our servers only to look up nearby events for that request; we do not store them or link them to your account. Your location is also turned into a city name on your device for display. You can use the app without granting location access by browsing a chosen city instead.

Technical data

Like any internet service, our servers automatically receive standard request data such as your IP address and device/browser type. We use this only to operate and secure the service.

2. What we do not collect

  • We do not access or upload your contacts.
  • We do not collect precise (GPS-level) location.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not use third-party advertising or sell your data.

3. How we use your data

We use the data above only to:

  • authenticate you and keep your account secure,
  • show you events, including events near you, and remember your activity,
  • operate, maintain, and improve the service.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers that help us run the app, and only as needed:

  • Apple — when you choose Sign in with Apple.
  • Our email provider — to deliver your sign-in codes.
  • Our hosting provider — to store data and serve the app.

We may also disclose data if required by law.

5. Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your account and the activity tied to it (RSVPs, saved events, lists, follows) are permanently removed. Sign-in codes are deleted as soon as they are used or expire.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the EU/EEA GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing.

  • Delete your account: open the app, go to your profile, and tap Delete Account. This permanently erases your account and its data.
  • For any other request, contact us at privacy@thijsbrits.nl.

7. Children

EventApp is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
